Activity Description

After a scenic drive into the city, we arrive at Table Mountain National Park and prepare to tackle the famous Platteklip Gorge trail, the original and most direct hiking route to the top. This historic trail has been used for centuries and offers an authentic, rewarding mountain experience.

The Platteklip Gorge hike covers approximately 3 kilometres one way, with an elevation gain of around 700 metres. The route is a steady but achievable climb, following a well-maintained stone path that zigzags through the dramatic gorge. The hike typically takes between 2 to 3 hours to reach the summit, depending on group pace, fitness levels and rest stops. Along the way, your guide shares stories, mountain knowledge and plenty of opportunities to pause, hydrate and soak in the incredible views as Cape Town unfolds below you.

Reaching the summit is a true bucket-list moment. Once at the top, guests can explore the flat plateau of Table Mountain, take photos from multiple viewpoints and enjoy time to relax, refuel and celebrate the achievement of hiking one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature.

For the descent, guests can choose between hiking back down Platteklip Gorge with the group or taking the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway (weather permitting and ticket cost excluded). Taking the cable car offers a spectacular rotating panoramic view of the city, ocean and surrounding mountains.

After the descent, we regroup and head back to Stellenbosch, arriving in the late afternoon with tired legs, full camera rolls and serious bragging rights.
