The Mzanzi Route: 22-Days of Pure South African Magic
Get ready for the ultimate 22-day South African road trip — The Mzanzi Route — a wild, soul-stirring journey from Joburg to Cape Town and everywhere in between. This is not just a tour, it’s a full-blown immersion into South Africa’s diverse landscapes, cultures, adventures, and stories. From Big 5 safaris and mountain passes to coastal towns, community connections, and unforgettable thrills — this is the real Mzanzi, the local way.
Day 1: Touchdown & Team Vibes
Arrive in Johannesburg and link up with your crew — it’s all about first impressions, team energy, and setting the tone. After a chilled briefing, enjoy a fun bonding night to kick off the Mzanzi magic.
Day 2: Road to the Wild
Hit the road early and cruise toward Kruger National Park, with a local-style breakfast stop along the way. Once inside the park, gear up for your first wild game drive, then end the day around the fire at our Mzanzi welcome braai.
Day 3: Game Drives & Camp Life
Start with a sunrise game drive — golden light, wild animals, and bush bliss. Spend the day relaxing at Skukuza Camp, then head back out in the evening for round two of Kruger’s untamed drama.
Day 4: Into the Panorama
One last sunrise drive before heading for the stunning escarpments of Mpumalanga. Explore Lisbon Falls, God’s Window, and Graskop Gorge before grabbing cold beers at Bruno’s Bar with your new besties.
Day 5: Canyon Cruising & Time Travel
Take in epic views at Blyde River Canyon — the world’s third largest — then stroll the gold rush streets of Pilgrim’s Rest. That night, settle into the charming mountain town of Dullstroom for some classic small-town vibes and bonding.
Day 6: Bushveld Calling
Roll into Dinokeng Game Reserve and check into the vibey Kwalata Lodge. After an intro to the days ahead, hop on a sunset game drive and end the day with a proper boma night under the stars.
Day 7: Culture & Community
Sunrise safari, breakfast at the waterhole, then dive into real connection with local communities. Meet artists, taste local food, and visit schools — this is Mzanzi from the inside out.
Day 8: Adrenaline & Adventure
Get your blood pumping with a full day of quad biking and zip-lining through the bushveld! Then slow it all down as we camp out under the Milky Way — fireside chats and unforgettable skies guaranteed.
Day 9: Welcome to Soweto
Swap wilderness for culture as we arrive in the beating heart of Joburg’s history — Soweto. Bike through the township’s legendary landmarks, then spend the afternoon volunteering at a local art school with the kids.
Day 10: Sunrise Skies & Freedom Stories
Take to the skies in a hot air balloon over Hartbeespoort Dam, then dive into South Africa’s powerful past with a visit to Constitution Hill. Wrap it up with shopping at Sandton Mall and some downtime to reflect.
Day 11: End on a High — Literally
One last adrenaline rush: SKYDIVING! After breakfast, it’s time to gather your things and fly off to the next leg of your adventure… 11 more days of untamed beauty, wild adventure, and local flavor — the second chapter of your epic Mzanzi Route.
Day 12: Welcome to the Mother City
Arrive in Cape Town and get settled in the city’s vibrant Atlantic Seaboard. Meet the crew, get briefed, and kick off the journey with dinner at one of the city’s buzzing local markets.
Day 13: Cape Town Icons
Take in the best of Cape Town — from Table Mountain and Bo-Kaap to the Waterfront and City Bowl. Snap epic photos, soak up the culture, and enjoy a delicious dinner with a view.
Day 14: Cape Peninsula Adventure
Cruise one of the world’s most scenic drives along Chapman’s Peak, hang with African Penguins at Boulders Beach, and touch the tip of Africa at Cape Point. Wrap the day in the boho vibes of Kalk Bay with a seaside dinner.
Day 15: Wine, Culture & the Cape Winelands
Transfer to the student-town-turned-wine-mecca of Stellenbosch and explore the Winelands in style. Sip, taste, and learn with food and wine experiences in Franschhoek, Paarl, and Stellenbosch — all infused with rich local culture.
Day 16: Road Trip to the Klein Karoo
Hit the open road via the jaw-dropping Tradouw Pass and Route 62 for an old-school roadhouse lunch. Then it’s port tasting in Calitzdorp and a unique ostrich farm stay under the Karoo stars.
Day 17: Karoo to Coast
Go full Indiana Jones on an adventure tour through the Cango Caves, then cruise over Outeniqua Pass to the lush coast. Explore the Knysna lagoon and rest up at the legendary Island Vibe Backpackers.
Day 18: Culture & Thrills
Visit a vibrant Rastafarian village before heading to Bloukrans — home of the world’s 2nd highest bungy jump (yes, you can jump!). Then it’s onwards to the surf haven of Jeffrey’s Bay for a night at the beach.
Day 19: Waves, Flavour & Rhythm
Ride the waves during a 1.5hr surf lesson or try stand-up paddling, then dive into a township food tour filled with flavour. End the day sandboarding into sunset and learning to drum the African beat under starlit skies.
Day 20: Big 5 Safari Day
Head to Addo Elephant Park for a full-day game drive tracking Africa’s giants. After lunch with a view, wind down in Tsitsikamma’s forest village.
Day 21: Forests & Oceans Collide
Hike across suspension bridges and paddle through the spectacular Tsitsikamma National Park. Enjoy a wholesome lunch at a farmstall before a coastal history tour in Mossel Bay.
Day 22: Last Wild Ride
