Day 1: Stellenbosch to De Hoop – The Adventure Begins!

Your journey kicks off with a scenic road trip from Stellenbosch to De Hoop Nature Reserve, about a 4-hour drive through rolling farmlands and rugged landscapes. Once inside the reserve, you’ll settle in at Potberg Hut, where the excitement starts to build. Enjoy the peaceful surroundings, soak in the last bit of civilization, and get a good night’s rest—tomorrow, the real adventure begins!

Day 2: Potberg Hut to Cupidoskraal Hut – Conquer the Summit!

Distance: 15.2 km
Highlights:
- Start the day with a challenging but exhilarating climb up Potberg Mountain, reaching 611 meters for insane panoramic views stretching all the way to Swellendam, Cape Infanta, and Cape Agulhas.
- Keep your eyes peeled for the rare Cape vulture circling above—the only breeding colony in the Western Cape lives here!
- Descend into lush fynbos valleys, surrounded by colorful proteas and the sounds of nature.

End the day at Cupidoskraal Hut, a peaceful spot deep in the mountains, perfect for stargazing and sharing stories around the fire.

Day 3: Cupidoskraal Hut to Noetsie Hut – The Ocean Beckons

Distance: 15 km
Highlights:
- Say goodbye to the mountains and step into a whole new world as the landscape shifts from fynbos-covered hills to rolling sand dunes and coastal cliffs.
- Feel the anticipation build as you get your first glimpse of the Indian Ocean in the distance—soon, you’ll be right at the water’s edge!
- The last stretch to Noetsie takes you through ancient limestone formations, setting the stage for an epic overnight stay.

Noetsie Hut is perched just meters from the shore, so fall asleep to the sound of waves crashing against the rocks. If you’re lucky, you might even spot your first southern right whale before bed!

Day 4: Noetsie Hut to Hamerkop Hut – Beach Paradise

Distance: 7.8 km
Highlights:
- This is the day to take it slow and soak in the beauty of the De Hoop coastline. With fewer kilometers to cover, there’s plenty of time to explore the tidal pools, walk barefoot in the sand, and maybe even take a refreshing dip in the ocean.
- The trail winds along rugged cliffs and golden beaches, offering endless opportunities to spot whales, dolphins, and seals playing in the surf.
- Between June and November, southern right whales gather here in large numbers—get ready for some of the best whale-watching in the world!

At Hamerkop Hut, settle into your beachfront accommodation and enjoy one of the most peaceful nights of your life.

Day 5: Hamerkop Hut to Vaalkrans Hut – Wild and Untamed

Distance: 10.5 km
Highlights:
- Follow the coastline as the scenery shifts once again—expect dramatic limestone cliffs, secret caves, and hidden beaches.
- Keep an eye out for the African black oystercatcher, a rare seabird that thrives in this untouched paradise.
- The raw beauty of this stretch will leave you speechless—this is nature at its most pure and powerful.

By the time you reach Vaalkrans Hut, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into another world. Listen to the waves echoing in the sea caves, breathe in the salty air, and enjoy your final night on the trail.

Day 6: Vaalkrans Hut to Koppie Alleen – The Final Stretch

Distance: 7 km
Highlights:
- The last leg of your journey takes you to Koppie Alleen, where towering dunes provide the perfect farewell views over the ocean.
- Take one last moment to scan the waters for breaching whales and reflect on the epic adventure you’ve just completed.

From Koppie Alleen, a shuttle will take you back to Potberg, where your vehicle will be waiting. Say goodbye to De Hoop, but don’t be surprised if you’re already planning your next trip back!
