Day 1: R62 Road Trip & Starry Night Vibes
We hit the road on the legendary R62, winding through mountain passes and vineyards on one of South Africa’s most scenic routes. First stop: the charming town of Barrydale, where lunch is served with a side of retro roadside nostalgia and local flavour. Then we cruise deeper into the Klein Karoo for a wine tasting stop in Calitzdorp — South Africa’s port wine capital.
As golden hour rolls in, we settle into a laid-back farmhouse stay, surrounded by open skies, stillness, and maybe even a visit from the local eagle owls. Stargazing = mandatory.
Day 2: Caves, Ostriches & Sunset on the Sand
Adventure calls! We kick off with a guided exploration through the Cango Caves — a surreal underground playground of towering chambers and tight tunnels. From there, it’s off to meet some feathered giants at a working ostrich farm, where you’ll get up close and personal with the Karoo’s most iconic bird.
Then we make our way to the coast, landing in Mossel Bay just in time to watch the sun melt into the ocean. Tonight’s sleep? On a vintage train turned beachside backpackers, right on the sand. Drift off to the sound of waves and dreams of adventure.
Day 3: Cape St Blaize & Big 5 Thrills
We start the day with a dose of history and coastal beauty at the Cape St Blaize Lighthouse complex — one of South Africa’s oldest working lighthouses. Perched above the cliffs, the views are next-level and the stories behind the light are just as rich. You’ll explore the area’s pathways and maybe spot dolphins dancing in the surf below.
Then it’s time to crank up the wild — we head inland for an exciting game drive at a local private reserve. Expect encounters with some of Africa’s greatest hits: lions, rhinos, elephants, cheetahs, and more.
As we cruise back to Stellenbosch, the Garden Route will have woven itself into your memory — a perfect mix of nature, nostalgia, and non-stop good vibes.
